Happy Halloween!  Today was a good day.  A busy day but good day.  Tuesday is preschool day for Zoë so she got to wear her costume to school.  How cute is that?  Seeing all those little munchkins running around in costume was adorable.  I even made little treat cards for all of Zoë's classmates. (I just love Heather Ann's clever ideas!). I also converted the treat cards into postcards and mailed them off to family and friends.  I just can't resist sending pictures whenever the opportunity presents itself.

This afternoon we painted pumpkins and watched Pooh's Heffalump Halloween movie.  Good stuff.  We followed that up to a trip to Bellevue Square for some trick-or-treating, Kelly was even able to come with us.  Who ever came up with the idea of trick-or-treating at the mall was a genius.  There are crafts and activities, it is warm, well lit, and security…what more can a parent ask for?  Add a latte to that and you pretty much have the perfect Halloween evening.

Once we got home the evening took a turn for the worse…we didn't have a single trick-or-treater!  I was so looking forward to it.  For years we lived down a long spooky driveway in the country that no child dare venture down. Last year we were in a secure apartment building that random people could not get into.  I thought for sure that this would be the year for trick-or-treaters.  I lit the pumpkins and everything, but no luck.  Now we have a gigantic Costco sized bag of candy just begging to be eaten.

Would you believe that this is Zoë's third Halloween and I do not have a single year scrapped yet?  Bad mommy!  I am putting that on my to-do list.  But for now, I am totally copying Gina's idea and doing a Halloween recap for you all.

Miss Zoë's first Halloween, 2004.  She was only four months old in this picture.  We made the rounds to all the grandparents and great grandparents houses that year.  She even kept her headband on!

For Zoë's second Halloween I thought I would do something different.  Something she probably wouldn't pick out herself when she got older.  I was pretty sure by the time she was two I wouldn't have a choice in the matter.  Dorothy it was.  At just under 18 months old her hair was long enough to put in braided pigtails.  So cute!

    Falling Backwards

Ah, the time change.  I have mixed feelings about the time change.  The night we set the clocks back used to be my favorite day of the year.  (I like my sleep).  But now that I have a child the morning is bittersweet. Zoë still gets up at the same time.  She doesn't get the whole "extra hour of sleep" thing. True, she now goes to bed at 6:30pm instead of 7:30pm…the girl is on a schedule…but when I hear her knocking on her door in the morning saying, "Mommy, where are you?" and see 6:15am on the alarm clock I cringe.  Yes I know, it still feels like 7:15am to me but the clock says 6:30am.  I have always had an aversion to getting up before the clock says 7 or later.  I am just not a morning person.  Neither is Kelly.  We just don't do it.  Thankfully we both work from home so we really don't have to be morning people, except our daughter seems to be one.  What is up with that?  Like I said though, I can't really complain because she is READY for bath time at 6pm and in bed by 6:30pm. She has been on this exact same schedule since she was three months old.  We have tried to change her little body clock and it just doesn't work.  That is one blessing about the winter time…so much time in the evenings to scrap, work, watch TV…whatever.

    White and Nerdy

Thankfully I grew out of the whole nerdy stage (for the most part…now I consider my computer savvy cool). Man, if you had known me in junior high…. Yikes. Imagine me with HUGE purple glasses, braces, big hair, and early 90's clothing.  I take that back, don't imagine it.  It was not pretty.

Why do I mention this? Because of Weird Al's new video "White and Nerdy"  It is hilarious.  Enjoy!

    The Ferry Boats

    websign The Ferry Boats
The ferry boat was awesome.  I highly recommend it for travel with a toddler.  Our ferry to Victoria departed at 7:45am and the sun was just rising as we took off.  The scenery was gorgeous.  Truly.  Most of the time I was chasing Zoë though.  The icy cold windy that took my breath away didn't deter her at all.  She had an absolute blast running around outside in her winter coat.  The three hour ride went by in a flash.  We arrived in Sydney and had to drive to Victoria. (Slightly embarassing side note: I thought Victoria was an island.  Nope.  It is a town on  Vancouver island. Who knew?).  We were driving around looking for our hotel, The Royal Victoria Suites.  Sounds impressive doesn't it?  Don't let the word ROYAL fool you.  We had to drive past it twice before we saw the one small doorway leading inside.  Now, let me zoom out with the camera so you can truly appreciate our location.

Monty's: Victoria's Premier Exotic Lounge. Right next door….with a huge sign above their door saying "Wet, wet, girls!" and naked pictures.  Fabulous.  How nice of the hotel to mention that.  No wonder the description of their location said it was just to the left of Le Spa Serene.  That sounds much better than just to the right of the strip club.

It actually sounds worse than it was.  The hotel was right on the main shopping strip so we were able to take in the sights on foot.  Victoria is gorgeous.  Kel and I decided though that next time we were going to take the Victoria Clipper over (they only allow foot traffic, no cars) and stay at The Empress Hotel.  Here are some pictures.  Check them out.  The hotel that you are see with the bright red ivy all over it is The Empress.  Pretty cool.

    Scrapper’s Block Be Gone!

Ugh. I am in a scrapbooking funk.  I have been having the hardest time being creative.  I think it is because my style is evolving and it is taking me some time to find my groove.  I have at least five layouts sitting partially done on my desktop.  I
just stare at them and nothing comes.  Then I get sick of looking at
them and give up for a while.  Thankfully, I FINALLY finished a layout tonight. Credits can be seen here.

pygmymarmoset small Scrappers Block Be Gone!

    Journalling Reads:
Kiddo, you crack me up. You have very unique ways of expressing yourself when you are angry. About a month ago you would say “Mahookie!”  It was your very own creation. Daddy and I never did quite figure out what it meant but I am pretty sure that it was not a good thing. You mostly said it when you were ticked about something…mostly.  Now Mahookie is gone.  Now when you are upset you say/cry

    "Oh No, Pygmy Marmoset!"

What two year old says that?  You learned the word while watching “Go Diego Go!” what a tiny monkey has to do with being mad I will never know.  The other night you refused to get out of the bath tub so Daddy pulled the plug and let the water drain out. You still refused to get out and laid flat on the bottom of the cold empty tub crying

    "Oh No, Pygmy Marmoset!"

It is so hard not to crack a smile or start laughing when you throw your tantrums. You are just so darn cute!

    ***

That is all for now.  I don't actually have anything terribly thrilling to report.  I have been sick. Sick enough that I actually just laid on the couch last night and watched TV. I didn't even multi-task and mess around on my laptop.  I am thinking that getting a flu shot when I was already not feeling well was not the brightest move on my part.  Lesson learned.

We are leaving tomorrow morning for Victoria, B.C.  I have never been there.  Kelly and I were really looking forward to the trip until we found out that there is only one ferry that runs between Anacortes (about 90 minutes from us) and it leaves at 7:45am.  We have to be there an hour early.  Let me do the math for you.

         7:45 Ferry Leaves Terminal
-One hour= 6:45am Arrival at the Terminal
-90 minute drive= 5:15am Departure from our house
-45 minutes to everyone ready and out the door
        =4:30am Wake up

The moral to the story?  I have to back away from my computer and go to bed!  I will keep an eye out for McDreamy. You know how he likes those Seattle ferry boats.
